THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is burning. People are struggling to cope with the scorching sun. Keralites are unable to step out of the house from 11 am. A heatwave has been declared in Thrissur along with Palakkad by the Central Meteorological Centre. Thrissur has been recording five degrees above normal temperature for the past five days, due to which a heat wave has been declared. Special caution should be maintained here. An orange alert has been declared in Palakkad due to high temperature. Extreme vigilance should continue in the district till May 2. There is also an instruction not to expose the body to direct sunlight from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m in all the districts of the state.
Palakkad recorded the highest temperature rise yesterday at -41.3 degrees. This is 5 degrees above normal. Thrissur recorded a temperature of 40 degrees yesterday. This is 5.5 degrees above normal. Alappuzha and Thrissur recorded the highest temperature in the month of April yesterday. The weather centre has warned that the temperature will be high till the first week of May.
Sunstroke: One death in Alappuzha
ALAPPUZHA: Worker died after getting sunstroke during wiring work. The deceased is Subhash (44), son of Puthanpurakal Joseph, Omanapuzha.
The incident happened around 3 pm yesterday. Subhas who had collapsed, died while being taken to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Wife: Bibin, a member of the Pazambaseri family in Pollethai. Children: Benita and Anita.
