PATHANAMTHITTA: With a red alert warning blanketing Pathanamthitta, the authorities imposed a travel ban to the hilly regions of the district. Night travel is prohibited in hilly areas. The authorities have advised people to not travel towards the hilly areas after 7 pm. The restriction will continue till May 23rd.
In the wake of the red alert, there is a ban on tourism in Gavi as well. The functioning of the quarry has also been put on hold. The District Collector informed the media about setting up camps in all taluks. Officials also assured about completing all arrangements to evacuate people from Ranni and Konni areas if necessary.
Apart from Pathanamthitta, a red alert has been declared in Kottayam and Idukki districts for Sunday and Monday. An orange alert is also in place today in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram districts.

Monsoon is likely to reach South East Bay of Bengal, South Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands by May 19, the Meteorological Department said. In Kerala, the monsoon is expected to arrive by May 31st.
