SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Pulwama’s Nihama area. The army and the police started a joint search after receiving clear information about the presence of terrorists in the Nihama region of south Kashmir. “Encounter has started at Nihama area of Pulwama. The gunfire broke out after terrorists fired at the security personal during the search operations. The army and the police retaliated strongly then. No deaths have been reported so far.

A terrorist was killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Pulwama area. The dead was Danish Aijaz Sheikh (34). He was a resident of Alnoor Colony under Ahmed Nagar Police Station in Srinagar.

Security forces had killed three terrorists in an earlier encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. The encounter was in Redwani Payen area that day. One of the dead was Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Basit Ahmed Dar. The army said that an amount of Rs 10 lakh was placed on the head of this man who was involved in the killings of local residents and security personnel. Other terrorists killed are Momin Gulzar and Fahim Ahmed Baba.

Kashmir Inspector General of Police V K Birdi told media that Dar's death is a great achievement for the army and he is a terrorist who has been involved in around 18 murders.

They were killed after a nearly 40-hour encounter after a security operation was launched in the area following information about the presence of terrorists. Many weapons were also recovered from here.

On May 4, there was an incident in Poonch in which an Air Force officer was martyred and four others were injured. A major operation was then conducted in the area. Heavy security has been deployed in the area as the elections are near. Meanwhile, the encounter took place.
