THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the moves made by some people with political leanings to destroy the autonomy of universities should be resisted. He was inaugurating the four-year degree course in universities and the state-level knowledge festival at Vazhuthacaud Government Women's College.

"If universities are to remain useful to the nation, their autonomy must be protected. Everyone involved in the higher education sector has a responsibility to resist politicized moves to undermine universities. There will be no more teaching for exams or studying for exams. Students will be able to study whatever they want."

"In addition to acquiring knowledge, language proficiency, critical thinking, skill development, value-based and environmental responsibility, entrepreneurship etc. will be grown in the students to make them capable of modern-day employment. A curricular and extra-curricular program has been designed for this. Rather than getting a degree for job fields, priority is given to developing skills to undertake entrepreneurship."

"The curriculum emphasizes research and employment opportunities through quality learning and learning methods and promotes the mental and social development of students through innovative teaching methods. If the current changes are in teaching, learning and evaluation methods, the next phase will be the restructuring of the programs," said the Chief Minister.

He published a handbook for four-year graduate students. Higher Education Minister R Bindu presided over the function. Mayor Arya Rajendran, Higher Education Principal Secretary Ishita Roy, Collegiate Education Director K Sudhir, Member Secretary Rajan Varghese, Kerala University Vice Chancellor Prof Mohanan Kunnummal and Govt Women's College Principal Dr VK Anuradha spoke.
