'Govt functions should be secular in nature, not everyone believes in God', says CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urges government functions to be secular. The Chief Minister's criticism came while inaugurating the ceremony to honour the winners of the 2023 civil service examination under the auspices of the Civil Service Academy. The chief minister said that the people of the academy have been told what is to be said and there is nothing more to say.

Government functions should not be organized in a particular way. All are citizens of India. That attitude should be fully reflected in every ceremony. Religions have theists and atheists. Not everyone in Hinduism believes in God. There are those who live in denial of God.

Secularism is not a political hypothesis. Rather, it is the basic nature of the Constitution. The Chief Minister also said that the Constitution should be upheld against communalism. Minister Dr. R. Bindu presided the function. The Chief Minister came down from the stage and presented a gift to AK Sharika, a native of Kozhikode Keezhriyur, who was suffering from Cerebral Palsy and who secured 922nd rank in the civil service examination.

The Chief Minister recited a hymn from Upanishad that he studied in ninth standard. There are still many changes that need to be made in the bureaucratic sector. The Chief Minister said that people should be convinced that they are not to be ruled but to be served.
