Central committee's direction is not targetted at Chief Minister: MV Govindan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary MV Govindan said that the CPM will make necessary changes to its style that distanced the party and its leaders from the people. He also said that the CPM central committee's direction to get rid of the arrogant behaviour of the leaders was not directed at any particular individual.

"The central committee said that efforts should be made to change the style that distanced the people from the party. The assessment that this is targeted at the Chief Minister is wrong. It was the state committee that found the reasons for the party's defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and reported them to the central committee. Reports claiming that the state committee's report was rejected by the central committee are baseless. Some people are trying to spread a false message that there are problems within the party," Govindan said.

Govindan also responded to the controversies surrounding the SFI.

"The SFI will identify its lapses and move forward by correcting them. Efforts are being made to destroy SFI in the name of the incident in one college. The party will not justify wrongdoings. Some people who had encouraged students to take up all kinds of violence are now attacking the SFI in the name of gun and bomb politics," he added.

Govindan also responded to CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam's comments on SFI.

"We had avoided wrong tendencies years ago. CPM is not ready to compromise with criminals," he said.
