MALAPPURAM: District Consumer Commission's verdict against Pondicherry-based Win Bros & Company and Kerala State Beverages Corporation after a rotten insect was found in a bottle of foreign liquor.

The complainant bought foreign liquor for Rs 1,100 from the Beverages Corporation shop at Edappal Kandanakam. A grasshopper was seen after drinking for a while. According to the complaint, Rs 160 more was charged for liquor worth Rs 950. The opposite parties have alleged that the allegation that an insect has remained unrotted inside the bottle prepared in 2017 is not true and a false complaint.

Then, in the inspection conducted by the Excise Department, it was found that while the Beverages Corporation can keep the company's product for 360 days as per the contract, it is not acceptable to keep it for more years. The commission ordered the complainant to pay Rs 160 to the Beverages Corporation, Rs 2 lakh to the company, Rs 50,000 to the Beverages Corporation and Rs 25,000 as court costs.
