Govt gives farewell to army leaving Wayanad after rescue operations

KALPETTA: The army is leaving from the disaster land in Wayanad after ending their ten-day long rescue operations. The government along with the district administration gave a farewell to the army leaving Wayanad. All teams of the army are returning. The army informed that the rescue operations will be completely handed over to the NDRF, SDRF, fire force and the police.

The army’s 500-member team are returning. They are members of the battalion from Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Bengaluru. However, the team that constructed the Bailey Bridge temporarily will remain in the area. The helicopter search team will continue till the next direction is obtained.

The army informed that the remaining people will leave. The police, fire force, NDRF and various forces immediately reached Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas where the landslide struck. The Indian army reached on July 30 afternoon. The army rescued many people. Very expert soldiers were involved in the construction of the Bailey Bridge by the Madras Engineering Group.

Minister Mohammed Riyas presented a memento to the army personnel.
