THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, will take the oath of office on January 2. The Chief Justice of the High Court, Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, will administer the oath at the Raj Bhavan Auditorium. The Public Administration Department will organise the ceremony. Since January 2 is a public holiday (Mannam Jayanthi), the event may be rescheduled to the 3rd. Arlekar will arrive in the capital on the 1st and will stay at the guest block of Raj Bhavan. After taking office, the Governor will move to the Presidential Block, known as Anantapuri.
The current Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan, will depart for Delhi on Sunday evening. At 4:30 p.m. today, the Governor will receive a farewell from the Raj Bhavan staff. The government is not hosting a formal farewell. University Vice-Chancellors will visit him at 11:30 a.m. today, and the Chief Secretary is also expected to arrive. Yesterday, after an inspection at the Government Dental College in Thiruvananthapuram, the Governor participated in an event at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram in Sasthamangalam in the evening.
