THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has approved the recommendation to appoint retired High Court judges Justice V Shersy and Justice Ashok Menon as Upalokayuktas and has handed it over to the government. The recommendation made by a committee consisting of the Chief Minister, Speaker, and Leader of the Opposition was accepted by the Governor last night.
Justice Ashok Menon, currently the Chairperson of the Central Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal, can take up the role of Upalokayukta only if his resignation is accepted by the President. Justice V Shersy, who joined the judicial service in 1988, became a High Court Judge on October 5, 2016. He has also served as Principal District Judge in Thiruvananthapuram and as District Judge in Manjeri and Thalassery.
The Governor has also approved the recommendation to appoint Risha T Gopal, the president of Perumatty panchayat, as a member of the Public Service Commission. Risha T Gopal, a representative of the Janata Dal (S), hails from Chittur.
