Heavy rains, landslides leave 35 dead in six days in Kerala, yellow alert in 10 districts on Wednesday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has stated that 35 people have died in the last six days due to the rains in the state. Thirteen died in Kottayam, nine in Idukki, three in Malappuram, two each in Alappuzha and Kannur and one each in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts.

At the same time, the rainfall in the state has decreased as low pressure has become less marked. However, the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains for four days from Wednesday. A yellow alert was issued in 10 districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Malappuram on Wednesday. Yellow Alert has been declared in 6 districts on October 21.

A young man drowned while bathing in Kallar in Thiruvananthapuram amid heavy rains. The deceased has been identified as Abhilash, 23, hailing from Chirakkal in Thiruvananthapuram. He came to Ponmudi with their family. But as it was closed, they to bathe in Kallar and the deceased youth was swept away. Locals rescued another man who was caught in turbulent waters.
