Govt announces Rs 5 lakh to kin of those killed in rain havoc, Rs 10 lakh aid to those who lost houses

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet meeting decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those killed in the monsoon and landslides in the state. It was decided at the meeting to provide Rs 10 lakh assistance to those who lost their houses and land due to the monsoon and to declare the affected villages as flood affected areas.

An amount of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to the disaster victims who have lost their houses in unclaimed land.

Families who lived in homes, including those in unclaimed land affected with more than 15 percent wreckage due to natural disasters, will be considered a disaster-affected family.

The cabinet has decided to repay the remaining amount of the home loan of Rs 27.5 lakh taken by the family of H Vaishakh, a Kollam-based soldier who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Kashmir, from the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund . It has been decided to allot Rs 5 lakh each from the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund to the dependents of Ramla, wife of Santhosh of Santhosh Bhavan in Kanjaveli and Shyamkumar of Sarath Bhavan, Kollam, who died due to electric shock. The couple's three daughters and Shyamkumar's two children will be included in the 'Snehappoorvam' project. It was also decided to provide a house for the children of the Santhosh-Ramla couple under the Life scheme.
