THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Left fellow traveller Cherian Philip will return to Congress. An official announcement regarding this will be made tomorrow after a meeting with veteran Congress leader AK Antony.
Cherian Philip's return to Congress marks the end of a 20-year relationship with the Left. Recently, Cherian Philip had shared the stage with former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, signaling his return to the Congress. During the event, Oommen Chandy, who took responsibility for Cherian leaving the Congress, said that the Congress leadership, including himself, should have tried to secure the seat for Cherian. Cherian Philip responded to this by stating that Oommen Chandy was still his guardian.
Cherian Philip, who had served as KTDC chairman and Navakerala Mission coordinator, distanced himself from the LDF after he was denied the Rajya Sabha seat. Though the LDF offered him the post of vice-chairman of the Khadi Board, he declined the post.
