Covid deaths on the rise in Kerala, situation critical in four disricts: Centre

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Health Ministry on Saturday wrote a letter to Kerala informing that Covid deaths were on the rise in the state. 2118 Covid deaths were reported in the state between last Monday and Friday, December 3. This is higher than the death toll reported in the previous week. According to the Union Health Ministry, the death rate is higher in Thrissur, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kollam districts. Union Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said this in a letter to the state health department.

Kerala reported 1,71,521 Covid cases in the last month. This is 55.8 percent of the total Covid cases reported in the country in a month. Almost all the districts in the state recorded an increase in Covid cases. The Center has expressed concern over new cases being reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kottayam districts. The Centre also directed various states to tighten surveillance and increase inspections in the wake of the detection of the Omicron-19 variant.
