MUNNAR: Devikulam former MLA S Rajendran is likely to be expelled from the CPM. The Idukki district committee has recommended to expel him from the party for a year. The final decision will be taken by the state committee. The recommendation was following the election defeat in Devikulam constituency. The party's investigation panel found serious lapses in election campaigning from his side.

There was no sincerity in his election activities, stayed away from campaigning, tried to divide votes etc are some of the serious offences against him. Activists from the branch level complained against Rajendran. Adimaly, Marayoor, Munnar, area committee members voiced complaint against him. The party entrusted an investigation commission after activists alleged that the former MLA convened meetings to defeat the party when the CPM decided to field advocate A Raja as the new candidate in Devikulam.

It was alleged that Rajendran having considerable influence over a dominant caste in Munnar, was trying to create caste segregation. In the evidence collected by the commission, the statements received confirmed the allegations against Rajendran. Earlier, former minister and senior party leader M M Mani had harshly criticised Rajendran.
