Omicron cases rising in state, private college in Thiruvananthapuram turns cluster

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said 63 more have been confirmed of Omicron in the state. The disease was confirmed on 15 in Thrissur, 14 in Thiruvananthapuram, ten in Kollam, eight in Ernakulam, four in Malappuram, three in Idukki, two in Palakkad and one each in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Kozhikode. Four of them are natives of Tamil Nadu from different countries. 36 came from low risk countries and nine from high risk countries. Nine came from other states. Nine got the disease through contact. Seven in Thiruvananthapuram and two in Thrissur contracted the disease through contact.

Six confirmed of Omicron in Thiruvananthapuram are students of a private college. They turned positive in the test conducted after they came back from a tour. With this, the college has become Omicron cluster.

Omicron was confirmed on 591 people in the state. 401 came from low risk countries and a total of 101 from high risk countries. 70 people got infected through contact. 19 people are from other states.
