Earth caves in during construction in Kalamassery; four people killed, rescue operations continue

KOCHI: Mounds of earth caved in during construction in Kalamassery. The accident happened where construction work of Nest Group’s electronic city near Kalamassery Medical College was going on.

Four people were reported killed in the accident. The deceased were identified as Faijul Mandal, Naujesh, Rulamin and Kudus Mandal, all natives of Bengal. Seven people were trapped inside. Five of them were rescued and taken to hospital. Earth caved in while they were digging a pit. All efforts are being taken to take those trapped outside after removing the mud using a JCB. The authorities said the fear of another landslide are making rescue operations difficult. Rescue operations by the police and fire force are progressing.
