KOTTAYAM: The investigating officials said CBI’s claim that Jesna Maria James, who went missing from Kanjirapally, is in Syria, is false. CBI sources said there were no such findings. The investigation team denied the news following widespread publicity on social media.

Jesna Maria James (20), daughter of James Joseph, a native of Vechoochira, disappeared on March 22 in 2018. Jesna was a second year BCom student at St Dominic's College in Kanjirapally. She disappeared while going to her aunt’s house near Mundakkayam in Kottayam from her house. She did not take anything other than her books.

Jesna could not be found even after the police and various agencies investigated the case. The high court had in February 2021 handed over the case to the CBI. The action was taken on a plea filed by the Christian Alliance and Social Action in Kochi.
