This is the reason behind the employees not believing KSRTC MD's words that the salary will be paid on May 10

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition workers' unions have stated that they are conducting strike after realizing that they will not be able to get their salaries this month, KSRTC management have starved the employees for Vishu and Easter. The employees said that there was no sincere effort on the part of the state government to pay their salaries and that the passengers should understand that they have to go on strike as they have no other means.

In today's discussion, KSRTC MD Biju Prabhakar had promised to pay their salary on May 10. But the strikers said they were conducting strike because they were not sure if the management would keep its word.

In addition to the Rs 30 crore received as government assistance, Rs 45 crore was disbursed last month through bank overdrafts to pay salary. It is no longer possible to take an overdraft without paying this obligation. Therefore, even if the Rs 30 crore sanctioned by the government reaches the account of KSRTC, it is certain that the payment of salaries will be delayed. The government is of the view that the salaries of public sector undertakings should be borne by itself. But the government is helping KSRTC because it is considered as a service sector.
