Officials shut down famous Kunnamkulam restaurant after video shows rat eating Alfaham

KUNNAMKULAM: In a sickening incident, a video captured from a hotel in Parempadam showed a rat consuming food which was open to be served to customers. The incident took place in Alami Arabic Restaurant in Kunnamkulam Parembadam. A youngster who came to the restaurant, took video of the incident after he saw a rat consuming Alfaham placed inside a glass box.

The video was later sent to municipal clean city manager Atli P John. Municipal health department officials reached the spot within 15 minutes and threw away the food which was consumed partially by a rat. Even during the inspection by the municipal authorities, the rat was consuming the food unperturbed. It is surprising to learn that no hotel employees caught sight of the egregious incident until the arrival of the officials. The health officials then wasted no time to immediately shut down and restaurant.

Due to extreme heat, the health department has tightened the inspection all over the state. In addition to hotels and juice shops, checks are also being carried out at fruit outlets seen on roadsides. There are also increasing complaints regarding stale watermelon being used for selling on the roadside.
