Priority ration card for one lakh more families; inauguration at govt's 100-day plan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One lakh more families in the state will be given priority ration cards. Yellow and pink cards will be issued. In addition to the free ration, these families will be entitled to free treatment and financial benefits. They currently hold blue and white cards. The distribution will be inaugurated as part of the government's second 100-day action plan.

As many as 1,72,312 ineligible beneficiaries had returned their cards on the instructions of Food Minister GR Anil. Of those, 1,05,499 were yellow and pink cards. Out of them, 70,000 priority cards were issued to the deserving. In addition, one lakh priority cards will be issued.

According to the Centre, 1.54 crore people in Kerala are eligible for free rations.

  • Current total cards- 92,19,752
  • 5,90,854: Yellow card
  • 33,81,136: Pink card
  • 28,38,476: Blue card
  • 24,09,286: White card

Benefits

  • Yellow card: 30 kg of rice and 4 kg of wheat per card for free. A packet of atta for Rs 6. 1 kg of sugar for Rs 21
  • Pink: 4 kg of rice and 1 kg of wheat per member by charging Rs 2 each, 1 kg atta for Rs 8
