THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Food Safety Department today conducted 190 inspections as part of the 'nalla bhakshanam nadinte avakasham' campaign, Minister Veena George said. Action was taken against 16 shops that were not licensed or registered. Notices were issued to 59 shops. 20 kilograms of stale meat was seized and destroyed. 8 samples were sent for testing. In the last 10 days, 2373 inspections were carried out across the state.
In the last 10 days, action was taken against 217 shops that were not licensed or registered. Notices were issued to 776 institutions. 334 kilograms of stale meat was seized and destroyed. 193 samples were sent for testing.
199 juice shops were inspected. Action was taken against 4 juice shops. 6 samples were collected for testing. Notices were issued to 27 shops. 88 unusable milk packets, 16 kg of fruits, 5 kg of dates and 12 bottles of honey were seized and destroyed.
So far 6361 kg of stale and chemically contaminated fish have been destroyed as part of Operation Fish. Out of 4255 tests during this period, 2296 samples were collected and sent for testing. Notices were issued to 90 people. As part of Operation Jaggery, which was launched to detect adulteration in jaggery, 544 establishments were inspected. Notices were issued to 5 institutions.
