Serious concern: Shigella infection in Thrissur Engineering College, more tests, Kalolsavam postponed

THRISSUR: Shigella infection has been reported in Thrissur Engineering College. The disease was confirmed on a student. The disease was confirmed on one in the test conducted after symptoms were found on 15 students. The health department is planning to conduct tests to know whether more have been infected.

The student infected has been isolated. The college union kalolsavam has been postponed after the student was confirmed of the infection. The renewed date will be informed later.

What is Shigella
Shigella is one of the leading bacterial causes of diarrhoea. Shigella mainly affects the intestine and can cause diarrhoea, stomach pain, and fever. The disease is easily spread by direct or indirect contact with the excrement of the patient. You can get the infection if you swim or take a bath in contaminated water.
