THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to batter the state till Thursday. Red alert has been issued in ten districts today. Red alert is in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. Orange alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kasaragod.
In the wake of heavy rains lashing, a holiday has been declared for educational institutes in twelve districts today. A holiday has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Holiday is for educational institutions including professional colleges. There is no change in examinations in Malappuram, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram. M G, Calicut, Kerala and Kalady universities have postponed the exams scheduled for today.
Authorities warned fishermen not to go into the sea. Hilly areas are on alert. Meantime, there are heavy rains in Pathanamthitta. Water level is rising in rivers. Revenue Minister will visit the distressed areas of the district. A relief camp has been opened in Chengannur. The water level in the rivers of Thrissur is dangerous. The water flow has reduced in Chalakkudy river.
