A note written by K T Jaleel MLA, regarding the sights witnessed during his Jammu and Kashmir visit, has stoked a controversy. In the description about Kashmir’s social life, Jaleel wrote, “There are gunned soldiers everywhere. Kashmiris have become a group of people who have forgotten to laugh”. Commenting on the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, Jaleel opined, “The anger towards the second Modi government’s decision to trifurcate Kashmir can be read from the people's expressions, and the feeling of alienation still remains in the hearts of Kashmiris.”
However, Jaleel referring to the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as ‘Azad Kashmir’ is what has sparked a controversy. In his post, Jaleel opined that the part of Kashmir annexed to Pakistan came to be known as ‘Azad Kashmir’. Numerous people have expressed objection towards the MLA’s remarks. Meantime, Jaleel also described the parts of Jammu, Kashmir valley and Ladakh under Indian authority as ‘India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir’.
