THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 41,000 former KSRTC employees have not received pension since two months. They are struggling and many are borrowing money to make their ends meet.
The distribution of KSRTC pension was delayed for several months during the last UDF government. After the LDF government came to power, pension distribution was done through cooperative societies. The practice was that the government would later pay that amount along with interest to the societies.
The pension has now been suspended due to a dispute between the finance and cooperative departments. On August 2, a memorandum was signed between the management, the government and the cooperative bank for the distribution of KSRTC pension. But the banks did not disburse the amount citing low interest rates. The finance department was also not ready to solve the problem. The cooperative department is of the view that low interest rates causes loss.
