THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A consensus move by CPI (M) related to Vizhinam protest. CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan visited Latin Archdiocese Archbishop Thomas J Netto. The party came up such a move while the CPM was organizing a rally in favour of the port. The reconciliation effort is being conducted as part of mediation attempt led by Malankara Catholic church head Baselios Clemis. Palayam Imam and Gururatnam Gnanathapasvi had earlier met with the protest committee general convener Eugene Perera.
Meanwhile, Minister Ahmmad Devarkovil said that central forces are not needed to maintain law and order in Vizhinjam. The government had changed their stand after supporting deployment of central forces in the High court last day. But the government has clarified that they will not oppose if the central forces are deployed as per the court's instructions. A circular read today in churches under the Latin Archdiocese says that they are not demanding for a complete halt to port construction. The Vizhinjam strike will also be discussed in the KCBC winter conference starting tomorrow.
