MUMBAI: A police officer has been suspended for accepting Rs 200 bribe from auto driver while on traffic duty. Nivruthu Manavane, who works in Thane Kalyan East, Maharashtra, has been suspended for six months. He is working as an assistant sub-inspector and has six more months left to retire. The footage of him taking bribe was captured through a hidden camera.

Although the auto driver did not come forward with a complaint, the authorities took action after the video went viral. The auto driver was stopped by the police for breaking the law at Chakki Naka in Kalyan. The officer demanded Rs 500 rupees in order to release the auto driver. The driver said he had only Rs 100 in his wallet. After this, the policeman asked him to call his relative to bring the money. Finally the auto driver agreed to pay Rs.200. He was not given the receipt for the payment.

Kalyan Citizen Forum tweeted the video tagging the DGP. They demanded that the policeman who took the bribe should be suspended.
