Vizhinjam port construction has not caused coastal erosion, reiterates NIOT's study report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) has come out with a new study report in favour of the Vizhinjam port construction. The new study of Chennai NIOT found that there has been no coastal erosion in Vizhinjam due to the construction work. The draft document of the 2022-Annual Study Report stated that the situation in Valiyathura and Shankhumugham areas, where coastal erosion is severe, is expected to improve by next year.

According to the study report, the construction of the port has not been able to have a major impact on coastal erosion or other issues on the shore. The study was conducted from October 2021 to September 2022.
