THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police on Thursday found the youth who was kidnapped by a gang from Thiruvananthapuram airport the other day. Tirunelveli native Ummar was brought to Vanchiyoor police station in the city and is undergoing interrogation. It is confirmed that a gold smuggling gang based in Valiyathura was behind the kidnapping of Ummar.

As per police:

Ummar reached the airport to collect gold from a passenger, who worked as a carrier. The passenger was coming from Singapore. Ummar was assigned to collect the gold and then give it to another gang. However, the plan went futile after the customs blocked the carrier inside the airport. Ummar had to leave empty-handed.

At this time, a gang based in Valiyathura reached the airport premises after getting a tip-off about the dealings. The gang intended to steal the gold from Ummar.

After seeing no point in waiting, Ummar decided to go back to Tirunelveli and was heading towards the railway station in auto when the gang blocked the vehicle and roughed him up. They even dragged him into their car and fled away. Midway through their journey, the gang stopped the vehicle and dropped Ummar on the road, only after confirming that the youth had no possession of gold.

Ummar later tried to reach Tirunelveli but was caught by the police. All the members of the Valiyathura gang have been identified. Their arrest will be made soon.
