THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has said that he will send the University Amendment Bill to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor to the President.
"Raj Bhavan has no choice. I would have signed the bill if it was not on the concurrent list. The government has legislative independence. I am not questioning it. But it must respect court orders. I am not in for a battle with the government. I am not an opposition leader to question mistakes. No one seems to be questioning the mistakes," the Governor said.
When quizzed about the controversy over the BBC documentary, the Governor said, "Our country values freedom of expression. However, we should check the time when the documentary came out. Some may be disillusioned with India becoming a world leader. They will want to dismember India. Some showed intolerance even when an Indian-origin Prime Minister became Prime Minister. Some people are angry that India has taken over the G20 presidency."
