THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Comptroller and Auditor General have found corruption of 5.6 crores in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation office. A scheme of giving subsidies to unemployed women by the Thiruvananthapuram corporation never met its target while a whooping sum of 5.6 crores was siphoned by employees within the office. The CIG has asked the government to allot an appropriate agency to get the culprits behind this fraud. A subsidy of three lakhs for startups was allotted to women folks falling in the scheduled caste category.

In the 2020-22 period, fake ids and invoices were made in a hurry to take away those 5.6 crores. It is suspected that the industrial extension officer and his coterie are behind this fraud. Nobody among the beneficiaries is said to have received the three lakhs for startups. A maximum of 12000 to 18000 reached these women. Accounts were opened in the service corporation banks to siphon money. Many women beneficiaries were persuaded by authorities to give their id cards for helping them get this money. Interestingly many unemployed women in the SC class haven’t heard about such a project from the government. In total, a subsidy of 6.45 crores was allotted by the government. From this 5.6 crores were taken away through illegal means by employees.
