Doctor dies by suicide by jumping from fifth floor amid depression after divorce

LUCKINOW: A 40-year-old psychiatrist died by suicide at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. She has been identified as Dr Hemika Agarwal. She took the drastic step Sunday evening by jumping from the fifth floor of her apartment at Officers City-2 Society in the Raj Nagar Extension area.

Hemika, who was seriously injured was taken to a nearby hospital, but her life could not be saved. Her father Dr R Chandra, a famous psychiatrist in Ghaziabad, said she had been struggling with mental stress and depression after her divorce around one and a half months ago.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and have started an investigation into the incident. The authorities said they are investigating the circumstances behind the suicide in detail. The police have also recorded statements of her family and neighbours.
