Woman kills husband with iron rod over dispute

PATHANAMTHITTA: A woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband with repeated blows to his head with an iron rod. She killed him following a family dispute at Attathodu in Pathanamthitta. The dead is Ratnakaran (58) of Chittar Kodumudi in Attathodu Padinjare Colony. The Pampa police have taken his wife Shantha into custody.

A dispute broke out between the two when Ratnakaran came home drunk. She then took the rod and hit him on his head many times. Ratnakaran was immediately taken to the public health center in Nilakkal by his neighbors, but his life could not be saved.

Meantime, the post-mortem report revealed that the cause of death of an elderly person who fell down during a road dispute in Idukki the other day was sunstroke. The dead is Puthenpurakkal Surendran (73) of Pengan Colony, Ambalapady, Mullaringad. The police had registered a case against his neighbor Kallingal Devaki (62) in the incident.

Surendran fell down during an argument with Devaki. Surendran lay on the road for two hours. Vannapuram Panchayat President M A Biju reached the spot, informed the police and then took him to Thodupuzha District Hospital in an ambulance. Surendran was declared dead on reaching the hospital.
