Flow of water to the dam decreases, nine shutters of Mullaperiyar dam closed

IDUKKI: Nine of the ten shutters that opened at midnight on the Mullaperiyar Dam have been closed. The amount of water flowing out of the dam has also been reduced. Only 493 cubic feet of water per second is flowing out presently.

A shutter on the spillway is now only ten inches open. The water level in the dam presently is 142 feet. The flow of water to the dam has decreased. Protests erupted after ten shutters were raised without warning at midnight yesterday. The locals protested at Vallakkadavu.

8000 cubic feet of water was discharged every second. Many houses were flooded. This is the fourth time in a month that the shutters of the Mullaperiyar Dam have been opened after 10 pm without warning.
