governor-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Muhammed Khan has signed the Waqf amendment bill. With this, the amendment to withdraw the decision taken by the Legislative Assembly last October leaving Waqf Board appointments to the PSC has been recognized.

The decision to leave Waqf appointments to the PSC was highly controversial. Then the repealing bill was introduced in the House and the bill was passed. The signed bill was submitted to the governor on September 12. Both Samastha and Muslim League strongly protested against the decision to leave Waqf appointment to PSC. It was also demanded that there should be a method of appointment similar to that of the Devaswom Board. Then the organizations held discussions with the Chief Minister. After the discussion, the Chief Minister responded that the decision to leave the appointments to PSC will not be implemented for the time being. Subsequently, the decision was repealed.
