THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the confiscation of their house, a family, including a baby and three elderly people, were thrown out of their house. A bank in Aryanad foreclosed Nihas' house Sajna Manzil at Thengumpuram in Parandode. The bank confiscated his house last evening. Nihas, his wife, five-month-old baby, parents and grandmother were at home. They had to sleep outside the house at night.

Nihas was an expatriate. He had built the house with an NRI loan. He had to pay Rs 11,000 monthly. He lost his job during the Covid period and returned home. Nihas, who sustained injuries in an accident that followed, was undergoing treatment for a long time. This defaulted the monthly payment.

After recuperating and regaining his health, he was working as a porter which his father was doing. He had contacted the branch several times to talk about keeping the outstanding amount and paying off the remaining amount. However, the bank's stand was that the entire amount should be paid.

He repaid about Rs 5 lakh. The foreclosure comes amid efforts to pay the remaining amount, including interest. The family has been forced to sleep outside their home because they have nowhere else to go.
