Complaint of being tricked and cast in obscene web series; director arrested and released on bail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Director arrested on the complaint that she tricked a man into acting in an obscene web series. Director Lakshmi Deepta was arrested by the Aruvikkara police on a complaint filed by a man from Thiruvananthapuram that she made him act in an obscene web series and telecast it through OTT, promising to make him a hero. Lakshmi was produced in Nedumangad court and released on conditional bail.

The complaint of the youth from Venganoor is that Lakshmi Deepta shot some scenes after promising to make him the lead in the web series and then forced him to act in obscene scenes by getting him entangled in the contract. Last year on June 5 and 7, the shooting of the web series mentioned in the complaint took place in a vacant flat on Aruvikkara. The complaint also states that the director threatened him by citing the contract, even though he tried to withdraw from filming the pornographic scenes in the series.

After the film's trailer was widely circulated on social media, the young man lodged a complaint with the Thiruvananthapuram Vizhinjam police. When the police did not take any further action in the matter, the young man approached the High Court. But Lakshmi Deepta got anticipatory bail from the High Court in the case. The High Court had directed that if the accused appeared before the police, she should be produced before the court and released on bail. According to this, bail was granted to Lakshmi.

Meanwhile, after the man's complaint, more people including actresses came forward with complaints. The woman, a native of Malappuram, lodged a complaint with the city police commissioner, and another woman, a native of Alappuzha, filed one with Kovalam police.
