Illegal adoption: biological parents not found, baby to be given up for adoption again

KOCHI: The biological parents of the baby girl illegally adopted by a couple from Thirupunithara didn’t come in search of their child. If they do not come by today, the District Child Welfare Committee will initiate proceedings to consider the child as abandoned.

The six-month-old baby, who is in the childcare centre of the Shishu Kshema Samiti, is healthy. The biological parents of the child have not yet contacted with the committee. They were not found in the police investigation also.

The provision is that if the biological parents of the adopted children do not turn up within three days, then the proceedings can be started considering the child as abandoned. Child Welfare Committee Chairperson KK Shaju said that the District Child Protection Officer will be instructed to implement this provision. A special police team led by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner PV Baby is investigating to find the real parents of the baby.

A team was appointed by the Director of Medical Education to investigate the making of fake birth certificate in Ernakulam Medical College for the couple who adopted the child. They gathered information A team headed by Thrissur medical college Vice principal VV Unnikrishnan examined the documents. Information was collected including from doctors. The committee will submit its report within two weeks.
