DYFI unit president hacked to death in Palakkad while settling family dispute

PALAKKAD: A local DYFI leader who intervened to settle a family dispute was hacked to death. Sreejith (27), son of Santhakumari of Kizhakkarathuppadi house near Panayoor PHC is the deceased. Sreejith was the president of Panayoor Health Center unit of DYFI in Ottapalam.

The incident occurred at 11pm on Friday. Sreejith was trying to avoid a quarrel between his uncle Radhakrishnan and his son Jayadev. According to police, Jayadevan, who was drunk, hacked Sreejith with a sharp weapon. The neighbors who tried to rescue him were also injured. Sreejith was immediately taken to the hospital but died.

Sreejith’s body is kept in the mortuary of a private hospital in Vaniyamkulam. The injured people have also sought treatment here. Jayadevan is in police custody and is also undergoing treatment for injury. Shornur police have registered a case in the incident.
