NEW DELHI: A 14-year-old girl lied that she was sexually assaulted to avoid being scolded by her parents for not scoring well in her class 10 exams. The incident took place in Bhajanpura, Delhi. The girl also harmed herself with a blade to make her family believe that she was raped.

The girl told her family that she was abducted by three boys on her way home from school and was molested and injured. Then on the 15th of this month, the girl's parents filed a complaint at the Bhajanpura police station. Based on this, the police registered a case of abduction and rape under the POCSO Act.

When the CCTV visuals were examined as part of the investigation, the police came to know that the girl had lied. In the footage, the girl is seen roaming alone in the place where she was said to have been abducted. Later, when the police counseled the girl, it was revealed that she had lied to her family because she was afraid of failing the social science exam. The girl also said that she was afraid that her parents would scold her. Then the girl was taken to the Magistrate and the case was canceled after recording her statement
