POTHENCODE: It is alleged that the police are not acting effectively even though groups stealing electric wires from houses under construction are active in various parts of the state. Chenkottukonam native Sasidharan is the latest one to lodge such a complaint. The wires were stolen from his two-storeyed house under construction opposite Jyothi Kshetram. Workers were there in the house till April 1.

The group entered the house in the wee hours of April 3 by dismantling the temporary door of the house. The wires that didn't come off were cut with pliers. Sasidharan then lodged a complaint with the Kazhakootam police stating that he suffered a loss of one and a half lakh rupees. A similar theft had taken place in a nearby house three months ago. Although a complaint was lodged with the Pothencode police, the accused were not arrested. The house owners are saying that the inability to nab the gangs stealing electric wires is a major lapse on part of the police.
