Tourists from Tamil Nadu drown in sea in T'puram

VIZHINJAM: Two natives of Tamil Nadu drowned in Karikkathi beach in Mulloor here. The deceased have been identified as Rajathi (42), wife of Dr Arun Kumar from Salem and Sai Gopika (9), younger daughter of Dr Satheesh Kumar and Dr Ramya from Thanjavur. The incident happened on Saturday morning at 7.30 am. The tragedy happened when they were about to go to Munnar yesterday after visiting Thiruvananthapuram's tourist centres.

Those who were with them were also swept away by the sea, but they managed to escape by holding onto the rocks. After hearing screams, people including the security personnel who were nearby brought a boat and carried out the rescue operation. Coastal Police said that they were found and taken to the hospital but their lives could not be saved. Rajathi's son- Karunyan. Sai Gopika's brother- Saikrishna. After the post-mortem, the bodies of both were taken to Tamil Nadu.
