Cyclone Biparjoy intensifies, widespread rain likely in Kerala today, yellow alert sounded

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cyclone Biparjoy has intensified into a severe cyclone over the central-eastern Arabian Sea. The central meteorological department has informed that Kerala will receive heavy rains as part of it. The meteorological department has also asserted that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and wind till June 11.

The Meteorological Department had yesterday informed that there is a possibility of monsoon arriving in Kerala within 48 hours. A yellow alert has been issued in Alappuzha and Ernakulam today. Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha on June 10 and in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha on June 11.

The central meteorological department has informed that in the next three hours there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad and Wayanad will also receive light to moderate rain at isolated places.

Warning for fishermen and coastal residents
1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.

2. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats will avoid the risk of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.

3. Avoid trips to the beach.
