SRINAGAR: Security forces killed five Lashkar terrorists who tried to infiltrate into Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter that started yesterday morning in the Machail sector is continuing. The police said that more terrorists are hiding and the search has been intensified. Security forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police and intelligence agencies are conducting a joint operation following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists.

"Three (03) more terrorists of LeT killed (Total 05). Identification being ascertained. Search operation in progress. Further details shall follow," Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a post on X, citing Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar.

The firefight started after a joint team of police and security forces got an input about the presence of terrorists in that area. After security forces cordoned off the area, terrorists hiding there started firing drawing retaliation by the security forces.

Pak provocation

Meanwhile, Pakistani troops opened unprovoked firing at Indian posts along the international border in the Arnia sector of Jammu. The Pakistani troops opened fire at BSF posts at around 8 p.m. yesterday. A jawan was injured. India responded that the army retaliated and Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement.
