Record liquor sales in state during Christmas and New Year; Chalakudy and Irinjalakuda surpassed by these outlets

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Christmas and New Year season saw record liquor sales in the state. 543.13 crore worth of liquor was sold in the state from December 22 to 31. This time there was an additional sale of 27 crores over last year. Liquor worth Rs 94.54 crore was sold on December 31 alone. Most liquor was sold from the outlet on Thiruvananthapuram Powerhouse Road. Liquor worth more than one crore rupees was sold from here. The second position goes to the Ravipuram outlet in Ernakulam. Liquor worth 77 lakhs was sold from here. Irinjalakuda 76 lakhs, Kollam Ashramam outlet 73 lakhs and Payyanur outlet 71 lakhs are the top five outlets where most liquor was sold.

More alcohol was sold this year than last year. Last year, the total amount of liquor sold was Rs. 516.26 crores. 154.77 crore worth of liquor was sold in the state in three days in connection with the Christmas celebrations. Record liquor sales happened during Christmas. A total of Rs 230.47 crore worth of liquor including warehouse sales was sold in the state in three days. Last year, liquor worth Rs 210.35 crore was sold at the same place. This time, 154.77 crore worth of liquor was sold through the Bevco outlets alone. On Sunday, the eve of Christmas, liquor sales worth Rs 70.73 crore took place through outlets alone. Last year, liquor worth Rs 69.55 crore was sold on Christmas Eve. There was a record sale in Chalakudy on Christmas Eve. Liquor worth Rs 63.85 lakh was sold in Chalakudy.
