KANNUR: The post-mortem report of the tiger that died in Kottiyoor is out. According to the report, the cause of death is infection. The tiger had infections in its lungs and kidneys. The tiger became even more weak after being caught in the wire fence. The post-mortem was conducted at Pookode Veterinary Hospital, Wayanad.
The tiger was captured from Panniyamala, a populated area near the reserve forest area. It is reported that the tiger died at Kozhikode around midnight on the way to the zoo in Thrissur. The authorities of the Thrissur Zoo had been informed that the tiger would be brought to the zoo between 6 and 7 this morning. Based on this, necessary arrangements were made under the leadership of the superintendent of Thrissur Zoo to provide the tiger with treatment and other facilities. The news of the tiger's death surfaced in the meantime.
The tiger was spotted by the labourers who had gone for rubber tapping yesterday morning on the road at Panniyammala tribal colony. The workers, who saw the tiger in the light of the torch, got scared and informed the locals. On being informed, the police and forest officials reached the spot.
The tiger's leg got trapped on the fencing wire in the farm. After six hours, the tiger was tranquillized, caught and caged. DFO P Karthik had given a written assurance to the people's representatives that the tiger would be taken to Thrissur. Following this, the tiger died while being taken to Thrissur at 8:30 pm in the night. While trying to escape from the fencing wire, the tiger sustained minor injuries on its leg.
