THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police said that Hassan Kutty alias Kabir, the accused in the case of kidnapping the daughter of a nomadic couple from Bihar near Chackai Brahmos, is a habitual criminal. City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju revealed more details about the accused in a press conference.

The accused was taken into custody by the police from Kollam Chinakkada this morning. Hassan Kutty took the child away and tried to harm her and covered her mouth when she cried. The accused gave the statement to the police that he got scared and abandoned the child when she lost consciousness. The police reached the accused after checking more than 100 CCTV footages. Hassan Kutty is an accused in eight other cases. He has many theft cases in his name and was released from jail on January 12 last. He is a wanderer and has no fixed address. The commissioner also stated that he is a regular sex offender and does not know how to read or write.

Hassan Kutty got off the train at Petta railway station and walked to Chackai from there. He stopped and drank tender coconut. The statement says that the he saw the child and took her away. According to the records, the accused's native place is Ayirur, Pathanamthitta.
