THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Instead of the current pattern of written exams for all subjects, university exams will be linked to subject areas of study. Apart from the written test, field visits, industrial visits, video making and art performances will all be forms of examination. These will be papers of the same marks as the written test.
Online and open-book examinations will also be conducted. The examination patterns will be changed from this year onwards as part of the four-year degree program. Regulations for this have been approved by MG and Calicut Universities and will soon be implemented in Kerala and Kannur Universities.
Written tests will be of a maximum duration of two hours. The time will be determined according to credit, i.e. one hour in foundation courses and two hours in other subjects. Online and Open Book Examination will be for Foundation Courses. Universities can conduct online examinations in all possible courses. All courses will have a final semester project or internship. These will be industry-specific and the students can choose them. If they don't get a project outside, they can do it with teachers on campus.
The current 20 internal marks have been made 30. Written exams will be for 70 marks. The current 50 internal marks will continue in the departments in the varsity. Internal marks will be published and finalized only after hearing the complaints of the students. There will be a system at various levels to resolve the complaint. The assessment of first, third, fifth and seventh semesters will be done by the colleges, while the rest will be conducted by the varsity. This will ensure a quick declaration of results.
