Congress once again embroiled in leadership change discussion

congress

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A leadership change has become a topic of discussion in the state Congress following the assessment that organizational weakness has affected the parliamentary election work. There is an opinion in the party that the organization should undergo a revamp to make progress in next year's local elections and the 2026 assembly elections.

The KPCC leadership has assessed that it will not be good for the party to proceed in the current way. The leadership change has become a topic of discussion in the party at a time when K Sudhakaran, who handed over the charge of KPCC president after becoming the UDF candidate in Kannur in the election, is waiting for the AICC's direction to take over the post of KPCC president.

The Lok Sabha election coordination was carried out by Opposition Leader VD Satheesan in consultation with others. Many leaders share the opinion that the KPCC president should be changed in order to give a new face to the party.

The general thinking is that if youths are brought into the leadership of the party like in other states, it will lead to solving the organizational weakness and make the organizational system work like a well-oiled machine. It is indicated that the party will move towards the revamp after the declaration of Lok Sabha election results. There is also a discussion within the party about whether it is appropriate to exclude K Sudhakaran, who is notable as a leader who made the Congress fierce and active. There is also a need to follow the caste and religion equations. In any case, the decision will depend on the election results.

Minority leader has priority

1. The central leadership of the party is faced with the issue that the party's Christian vote bank is getting affected as Christian minorities are moving away from the party and due to the absence of strong leaders from this section
2. In that case, MLAs Roji M. John and Mathew Kuzhalnadan will be given preference for the post of KPCC President. PC Vishnu Nath is also being considered for the post of KPCC president.

3. Mathew Kuzhalnad's possibility to be named KPCC president is enhanced by his agile organizational skills. He had also put Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the defensive by constantly raising questions against the CM. The fact that groups are not as active in the party as they used to be, has also increased the chances of youngsters.

4. Senior leaders like K. Muraleedharan, Adoor Prakash, Kodikkunnil Suresh, Benny Behanan, etc. will be considered for the post of KPCC president. if leadership abilities and experience are taken into account.
